Lost Filling or Crown
You can temporarily replace or cover your damaged tooth, but it’s important to visit our Midlothian dental office so we can replace or repair your crown or filling to prevent further damage. In the meantime, try to locate your restoration and rinse it under water. You can temporarily re-attach the filling to your tooth using a small dab of denture adhesive, if available.
When is it Considered a Dental Emergency?
Knocked-out Tooth
Call your dentist ASAP. While you are holding the tooth by the crown, gently rinse off the root with running water if it is dirty. Do not remove or scrub off any attached tissue. Try to gently insert the tooth back into the socket. If you are unable to do that, put the tooth in a cup of milk and get to the dentist as soon as possible. Try not to touch, or bite down on anything around the socket the tooth came out of. If necessary, ice or a wet towel can be applied to any area that has trauma. Head straight to our Midlothian office for this dental emergency and don’t forget to take the tooth with you.
Broken Tooth (Trauma Related)
Call your dentist ASAP. If possible, try to locate the part of the tooth that was broken off. Take the broken piece with you to the dentist. Apply ice or cold compress to the mouth to reduce swelling. Proceed to our Midlothian office for this dental emergency as soon as possible.
Object Lodged Between Your Teeth
Try removing the object very carefully from your tooth with dental floss. Do not use any sharp or pointed instruments (pick, knife, etc.). If you are unable to remove the object call our Midlothian office and try to get an appointment as soon as possible.
